Carpet cleaning in Milton, Ontario, from Old Milton to the Boyne Survey

Milton is really two towns. There is the old one on Sixteen Mile Creek, built mostly before 1890, and there is the much bigger one that went up after Lake Ontario water arrived around 2000. The carpet in each is a different job, and we clean both, along with the sofa and the mattress if you want them done too.

Working here

Why so much of the carpet is the same age

For about twenty years Milton could barely grow, because the town did not have the drinking water for it. The Big Pipe brought Lake Ontario water up from the south around 2000, and building took off. Beaty, Dempsey, Clarke and Coates filled in during the 2000s, so a great many houses here had their carpet laid within a few years of each other. If yours came with the house and has never been professionally cleaned, the stairs and the upstairs hall are where it will show first.

Escarpment mud on the stairs

Kelso, Rattlesnake Point and the Bruce Trail are a short drive from most front doors, and the soil up on the escarpment comes home on boots and paws. It is worth knowing how to deal with it before you call anyone. Let a muddy print dry, vacuum it slowly in two directions, and only then look at what is left. Wet clay rubbed with a cloth goes deeper into the pile and spreads.

Older houses near the Mill Pond

Old Milton grew around the grist mill and the Mill Pond on Sixteen Mile Creek, and most of it went up between about 1850 and 1890. In a house that age we look at what the carpet or runner is made of before choosing a method, because wool wants less heat and less water than the nylon in a newer subdivision. Upstairs flats on Main Street usually mean no driveway, so tell us where the van can stop.

Two towns, two kinds of job

The difference shows up on the phone before we arrive. Dorset Park was laid out in the 1970s and Timberlea in the 1980s, and a house there is more likely to have carpet downstairs as well as up, sometimes carpet that has been down a long time. A call from Beaty, Harrison or Willmott is nearly always hardwood or laminate on the main floor, with broadloom only on the stairs and in the bedrooms. And a call from the Boyne Survey, the newest part of town south of Louis St. Laurent, is usually a first clean on carpet the builder put down.

So the first thing we ask is which floors are carpeted, not how big the house is. Stairs take the longest, because they are mostly edges, and we work them by hand from the top down. Bedrooms get hot water extraction: a pre-spray, a short dwell, a rinse and extraction, then dry passes so the pile is damp, not wet, when we leave. Our post on how often to have carpets cleaned is a fair guide to whether yours is due.

The sofa and the mattress while we are there

Many Milton calls are for more than carpet. A fabric sofa the family sits on every evening, a mattress that has never been cleaned. Both go on the same visit with the same van. We read the cleaning code on the upholstery label first and test a hidden spot, and the mattress is extracted in place rather than soaked. A wool rug is tested for loose dye before any water touches it, as set out on the area rug cleaning page.

Price and booking

Call 647-697-7435 and tell us the rooms, the stairs and anything else on the list. The price is set from that and confirmed before work starts. We bring all the equipment and the solutions, which are eco-friendly and safe around children and pets once dry, and our cleaners are insured and background-checked. If a carpet keeps going dull a week after cleaning, read why stains come back. Halton Region runs a subsidy for backwater valves and sump work in Milton homes, and if the basement has already taken water, that is our water damage service. The general method is on the carpet cleaning page, and east of town there is carpet cleaning in Mississauga.

Asked in Milton

Our house in Ford or Walker is only a few years old. Does the carpet need cleaning yet?

Probably not all of it. In a newer house the usual job is the stairs, the landing and the lane down the upstairs hall, plus whatever the kids or the dog have spilled. Cleaning early, before grit has worn the fibre, is what keeps a newer carpet looking newer. Tell us which rooms actually get walked on and we will price only those.

Can you clean a mattress on the same visit as the carpet?

Yes. A mattress is cleaned where it sits with an upholstery tool, not soaked. We vacuum it first, treat any marks, extract it and leave it to dry with air moving through the room. Plan for the bed to be stripped before we arrive and to stay unmade for a few hours afterwards.

Do you work in the rural parts of Milton as well as the town?

Tell us the address and we will confirm it. On a rural lot the main question is where the van can park, because the hose runs from the van to the room. Mention a long lane, a gravel drive or a steep slope to the door when you book.
